Will Jefferson and Andy Flower rewrote the record books as Essex overwhelmed Nottinghamshire by 184 runs at Trent Bridge to book a quarter final tie away to Worcestershire in the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy.
Both scored centuries while putting together a partnership of 248, the county's highest opening stand in all limited-over competitions.
They paved the way for a total of 309-4 from 50 overs, one which Notts never seriously threatened.
The hosts were shot out for 125 before the completion of the 22nd over, with Scott Brant and Graham Napier doing most of the damage with four and three wickets respectively.
"It was the most satisfying day of the season so far," said Essex head coach Graham Gooch.
