New Colchester United Ladies manager Steve Downey has a five-year plan that will make the club a force to be reckoned with.
Downey, who has a UEFA level three coaching badge and is community projects manager with the Colchester Sports Trust, takes up his role as boss today with a bigger and better future in mind.
The club were relegated from the South East Combination League last season - which also saw them lose 18 matches on the spin.
But while promotion from the Eastern Region premier league would be a plus next season, that is not Downey's main priority.
He said: "It will be a challenge. We had a minor setback last year, but we have a plan in place for the next five years which will see us get into the national leagues."
