The wife of a man killed when a lorry hit his tractor has paid tribute to her late husband.

John Scott, 51, of Brock Green, South Ockendon, died in Basildon Hospital after the smash near the Five Bells roundabout on the A13 last Tuesday.

Karen Scott, 43, talked of her husband's commitment to his job as a farmer and his love of horses and motor racing.

Mrs Scott said her husband had always worked on farms and was not afraid of a hard day's work.

He was known to work seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year, even at Christmas if needed.

The couple had a love for horses and Mr Scott was on his way to help prepare for an open day at the Essex Horse and Pony Protection Society (EHPPS) in Pitsea when the crash occured.

He was also a keen motor racing enthusiast and travelled the country watching races and sometimes acted as a steward.

Mrs Scott also paid tribute to the emergency services, in particular the four firefighters and off-duty nurse who stopped at the scene of the crash to try and save him.

Mr Scott suffered serious head injuries and a broken leg and was taken unconscious to Basildon Hospital where he died soon after arrival.

The couple had been married for 18 years and had no children.
