An 83-year-old pedestrian suffered serious head injuries following an accident on Clacton seafront.
The elderly man was crossing Marine Parade East when he was involved in a collision with a moped, which was being ridden by a 17-year-old.
The crash, at 1.25pm yesterday, saw the seafront road grind to a halt as police and paramedics rushed to the scene.
The street was closed to traffic for more than two hours while officers investigated the accident.
A police spokesman said: "Both the rider and the pedestrian received injuries and were taken to the hospital. The pedestrian has been detained with serious head injuries."
