Approval is being sought by a telecommunications company to hide a phone mast in a silo on a farm in Goldhanger.
Orange Personal Communications is seeking a prior approval application to put up a 15m high mast and ancillary equipment at Cobbs Farm on Maldon Road.
Previous negotiations between officers at Maldon District Council and Orange expressed concern that a 15m high lattice mast or monopole would appear particularly prominent in the landscape as it is an uncharacteristic structure.
However, Orange is seeking to hide the mast in a mock silo that would resemble the other agricultural-type buildings on the farm.
The silo would be positioned alongside an existing barn and to the rear of two existing, albeit smaller, silos.
All equipment, including ancillary cabinets, would be accommodated within the silo.
