A MOTOCROSS rider who suffered a serious head injury after a horrific crash at Marks Tey is said to improving in hospital.
Stephen Woodiwiss, 47, from Tiptree, was involved in a collision with another scrambler bike during a race on Sunday.
After being knocked unconscious, he was stabilised by St John Ambulance volunteers before an air ambulance took him to Queen’s Hospital, Romford, where he remains in a stable condition.
Stephen’s father, John Woodiwiss, also of Tiptree, told the Standard: “He is still at Romford and possibly being transferred at the weekend to Colchester. There is improvement, he is sitting up so hopefully he is over the worst.”
John Woodiwiss said he heard of the accident after the clerk of the course, Nick Archer, phoned his son’s wife after it happened.
The race had been organised by the Pre-65 Motocross Club, which holds races across Essex.
Mr Archer, who is also a club member, said he had also been getting regular updates on Mr Woodiwiss’ condition since the accident.
