Colchester: Castle Park is the best in the country

The best park in Britain is right here in Colchester – it's official!

Castle Park came top in the sixth annual contest run by lawnmower manufacturer Briggs and Stratton, beating off stiff competition from about 60 others across the UK.

Judge Peter Seabrook, gardening editor of The Sun, presented Colchester mayor Henry Spyvee with the award at a ceremony in Upper Castle Park on Monday.

Delighted park staff joined the celebrations, along with Colchester Council leisure portfolio holder Martin Hunt.

The Colchester park is now in the running to win the title of best park in Europe.

It will face competition from national winners from France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden.
