Colchester: Outstanding achievement puts Drew in line for prize

National kung fu champion Drew Hynds is in with a fighting chance of winning one of this year’s Colchester Youth Awards.

Drew has been nominated in the outstanding achievement category which applauds a young person’s care for others and dedication to his or her club and sport.

The Gilberd School pupil is the current under-15s British champion in the fixed step, or sparring, discipline, and is working towards his second dan black belt in September.

But he still finds time to take part in displays at fêtes and other community events, raising money for good causes in the process.

NOMINATIONS

There is still time to enter the Colchester Youth Awards.

Supported by the Essex County Standard, they are open to anyone in the Colchester area who is aged under 25.

The eight categories are volunteer, carer, environment, arts, community improvement, personal journey, entrepreneur and outstanding achievement.

You can nominate at colchesteryouthawards.org or call Nigel Chapman on 01206 272908.
