A care home in Colchester has been sold.

The Haven Residential Care Home in Harwich Road was bought by Maple Healthcare in the deal through Christie and Co.

Former owners Gary and Debbie Nicklin sold the business for an undisclosed sum in order to operate a smaller venture.

Haven, which is registered for 29 people, will join the nine homes across the eastern counties which are currently run by Maple Healthcare.

Christie and Co director Robert Mellamphy said: “Despite the current challenging economic environment, well-located, good quality businesses are strongly sought after from a number of genuine buyers.

“With many of the national operators focusing on paying down debt and therefore curtailing their acquisition activity, regional and local operators are taking advantage of this lack in competition for quality sites to expand their portfolios.”
