DISCO fever took over Colchester Castle Park for a night of music, dancing and laughter at the weekend.

After a busy week at work, I walked through Colchester Castle Park with a couple of friends for the Ibiza Orchestra Live event on Friday evening.

Lower Castle Park was packed with music fans who didn’t let the rainy weather forecast rain on their parade.

Torrential rain hit the crowds from 7pm and we took cover in the disco dome and silent disco tents.

We braved the heavy rain for former JLS member turned DJ Marvin Humes’ set as he took the stage at 7.30pm, playing some iconic dance hits.

Luckily the crowds had come prepared with umbrellas and raincoats and didn’t let the downpour dampen our spirits.

We danced the night away in our raincoats and boots to some of the most popular dance songs remixed by the famous DJ.

Snacking on a beef taco and sipping on a few vodkas, the night was a success in my eyes.

There was very little frustration from people about the terrible weather as we had accepted our fates.

Seeking shelter, we spent about an hour dancing to various tracks from Britney Spears, Oasis, Rihanna and more at the silent disco.

Having never experienced a silent disco before it took us a while to realise we could change the channels on our headphones to listen to a range of genres.

There were three stations which seemed to consist of classic throwback singalong tunes, dance music and some RnB.

The rain stopped and it turned into a mild evening as the sun set in the park.

We wandered back to the main stage to enjoy the Ibiza Orchestra made up of a 26-piece band.

They played some of the most well-known dance tracks alongside an incredible live vocalist.

Songs included Waiting All Night by Rudimental and Right Here, Right Now by Fatboy Slim which sounded amazing played by live instruments.

Overall it was a great event and despite the bad weather, the people of Colchester didn’t let it ruin it as spirits remained high throughout the night.

Many of us flocked to the centre of Colchester to finish off the evening in the city bars.
