WATER bottles, margerine tubs and a selection of plastic spoons - to most people, just every day kitchen utensils.
But to these young scientists, they were key components in making a water turbine.
More than 30 children from St Lawrence School in Rowhedge visited Essex University for a day exploring the power of water.
The experiments were led by Dr John Woods and Tony de Roy from the computing and electrical systems department.
The scientifically-minded children learnt how to make turbines or engines out of recycled plastic bottles and other household items which could then be powered by water.
Working in small teams, the groups were awarded prizes according to whose imaginative inventions generated the most green energy.
