A SOCIAL club for Colchester residents wanting to make a difference in their community will open its doors next week.

The Colchester Community Alliance, formed by Eastlight Community Homes, will meet on Monday, June 20 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at Greenstead Community Centre.

The aim of the meet-up is to provide an opportunity for residents to connect with each other in a social setting, after years of isolation during the pandemic.

Attendees will be able to discover inspiring examples of communities in action, then discuss the ways they can make Colchester a better place to live.

Those attending will have the opportunity to meet like-minded people over some locally sourced food and drinks.

The alliances come as part of All In, Eastlight’s new community programme, which aims to put power in the hands of people who possess an understanding of their community.

Rue Garande, Eastlight’s Community Empowerment Officer for Colchester, said: “If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference in Colchester but don’t know where to start, then please come along to our first Community Alliance meet-up.

“While we’ll provide the venue, some funding and of course, the refreshments, you will get to decide what actions you and your community will take.”
