SUPERMARKET staff and volunteers joined forces for a special fun day in memory of a teen who died last year.

Kerry Pates suffered a seizure and died at her home in Cowdray Avenue, Colchester, in June last year, aged just 19.

On Saturday a fundraiser was held at the Hythe Tesco, where her mum Karen works, to remember the teenager and raise awareness of the impact seizures can have.

Kerry’s parents and brother joined store staff in chatting to customers, selling cakes and raffling off prizes.

Tesco community champion Lisa Wells said: “This is the second event we have done in memory of Kerry and it was a very emotional day.

“She was lovely and everybody knew her, so it is a cause very close to all of our hearts.

“It is also so important that we raise awareness and make sure people know this can happen to youngsters, not just adults.”

The group raised more than £1,300 to be donated to Sudep Action, a national epilepsy charity.
