A HOUSING developer looks set to build up to 70 homes on land previously planned for businesses.
The 5.5 acre parcel of land, off Axial Way, Colchester, has been sold to an unnamed developer.
A change of use was agreed in 2010, to the surprise of local councillor Martin Goss.
He said: “It clearly was in the site allocations document, but I was under the impression the entirety of Axial Way was due to be commercial land.”
The land off Axial Way forms part of what was the Royal London sports centre and playing fields, some of which was developed into flats ten years ago.
Fenn Wright partner Roger Hayward said: "Now it is going to be available to meet the chronic shortage of housing we have."
