ANDREW Holmes, of VC Revolution, won his first Road race of the year at the Lea Valley Road Race.
The Colchester club member was competing in the race on Sunday.
On a tough circuit, based around Radwinter near Saffron Waldon, Holmes and 14 others managed to create a break after 20km into the race.
As the race progressed beyond the 50km mark the pace took its toll and the break was down to ten riders with a gap of 1:40.
Although this gap shortened towards the end of the race Holmes broke away with one kilometre to go and sprinted up the climb to claim a well-deserved victory.
