A man was left stranded on the roof of his van in the mud after trying to get to Osea Island.
The Thames Coastguard was called shortly before 3.40pm yesterday after the van owner became stuck while trying to cross the Osea Island Causeway.
The owner had got out of the vehicle and on to the roof due to the rising tide.
South Woodham Coastguard Team and the West Mersea RNLI Lifeboat came to the rescue.
The lifeboat removed the driver from the roof of the van and took him ashore, where he was given safety advice by the coastguard team.
The van is to be recovered at a later low tide.
