A POPULAR childrens’ play centre is set to undergo significant refurbishment.

Go Bananas is set to close for two weeks while its Jungle Adventure and Tiny Town play areas are re-fitted and made more modern.

The play centre, based in the Cowdray Centre, off Cowdray Avenue, in Colchester, has more than 5,000sq ft of play space and will shut between Monday, June 1 and Friday, June 19, while the work, worth tens of thousands of pounds, takes place.

A grand re-opening is planned for Saturday, June 20.

The Go Bananas After School Club will continue to run in rooms above the centre during the closure.

Angela Turner, a member of the management team, said: “In Tiny Town, we are creating a central part of our padded area more visible, so that parents will have the best access to their children while playing.

“Other plans include the installation of a projector, which will allow children to play interactive games, whilst also offering something more sensory.”

She added: “The most major part of our refurbishment will be our Jungle Adventure frame, as the entire current structure is coming down, with a brand new one being put up whilst maintaining the same floor space and providing ample play opportunities for children aged between five and 12.

“This new play frame will also be available for our evening adult and laser parties as it is designed to be lots of fun for the adults too.”

The centre has been open for about 25 years and the current owners have been in charge for ten years.
