THE buzz of excitement over the Royal birth spread to Colchester’s maternity unit.

New mums were sharing the delight of welcoming their newborns into the world this weekend with the Duchess of Cambridge.

She gave birth to a daughter at 8.34am on Saturday, less than three hours after being admitted to the Lindo Wing, at St Mary's Hospital, in London.

The new princess weighed in at 8lb 3oz and shares her birthday with celebrities including football star David Beckham and pop singer Lily Allen.

For Natasha Jones of Berechurch, Colchester, who gave birth to her first baby, Rory Dacres, at 7.09am on Saturday, it was exciting to be pregnant at the same time as the duchess.

She said: “Rory was two days late. I had wondered if he was hanging on for the royal baby to be born.

“I’m not normally a big royalist, but since I found out she was having a baby I have definitely been following Kate more.

“Rory weighs the same as the new princess, 8lb 3oz.

“It is extremely special to have had my baby the same day as Kate, and it’s a nice story for Rory too.”

A big question surrounding the new royal baby is how older brother Prince George will take to his new sibling.

Kate, who married Prince William in 2011, gave birth to George at the same hospital in London in July 2013.

Tara Smith, of West Mersea, gave birth to her second child at 9.50am.

The 22-year-old, who had a water birth, was two days overdue with Archie, who was born weighing 8lb 2oz.

He joins his older sister, two-year-old Isla, who might also be unsure about the new arrival in her home.

Tara said: “Isla loves babies, but she might change her mind when she knows he’s not leaving.”

Kyle Twelves arrived four weeks early to share his birthday with the new princess, but that’s not the only person he will be celebrating with, as his sisterwas also born on May 2.

Lola turned three the day her baby brother came into the world.

Mum-of-three Rea Twelves, of Sandringham Drive, Colchester, said: “We weren’t expecting him to be here yet, but I’m definitely excited for him to share his birthday with the new royal baby. I do like Kate and William.”
