An American descendant from the famous Kellogg family can say she has stepped in the same place as her tenth great-grandfather.

Cecilia Kellogg, 21, who is from Michigan, is currently studying in Ireland and took a trip to Braintree on Saturday as part of a trip to the UK with friends Anna Tompkins and Maggie Marshall.

Her ancestors, who founded the corn flakes company brand we know today, have their roots in Braintree Cecilia’s tenth great-grandfather, Martin Kellogg, was born in Great Leighs in 1595, later lived in Hoppet Lane, Braintree, and was married and buried at St Michael’s Church, in Braintree.

He had eight children, one of whom was the first Kellogg to immigrate to America.

Cecilia, who is in her last year of university studying business administration and community leadership, explored the town as well as Bocking and Great Leighs at the weekend after her university friend Nick Rudofski organised the trip for her birthday this week.

The trio were given a historical tour of the town by historian Mike Bardell, president of the Braintree and Bocking Civic Society, before visiting inside the former Angel Inn pub in Notley Road, Braintree - where Martin Kellogg once lived.
