GORDON STRACHAN believes Scotland's loss will be Celtic's gain after Tommy Burns' decision yesterday.

The Parkhead boss revealed today he had spoken with Burns last week to try and persuade the former Celtic manager to remain as the Hoops' first team coach and head of youth development.

He was unwilling to share his views on the SFA's conduct, but Strachan said he was delighted to hear yesterday's news.

"If Tommy had become the Scotland manager we would have had to sign another four people to take his place, so it's saved Peter Lawwell a lot of money," he said.

"One of the best decisions I've ever made in management in the last 10 years was bringing Tommy on board and closer to me here. I think that says it all."
