DOZENS of photos were judged in the latest round of a competition.

Penguins, cricketers, walkers and the famous Red Arrows were all featured by the amateur members of Colchester Photographic Society.

In total, 66 members entered the third round of its latest competition.

Photographer David Robinson, of Suffolk, was the guest judge for the round.

He said: “There are some great images from penguins to the Red Arrows and it’s a challenge to pick the best.

“For example, Six by Tony Argent really shares the moment with us. You can see the concentration on the batswoman’s face and her relationship with the ball.

“The Red Arrows by Amit Royillustrates the majesty of their performance, with each plane clearly defined as it rises through the clouds and the smoke trail tracing the trajectory against the beautiful sky – a great moment.”

There are four rounds for the competition.

The fourth round is scheduled for March 24 when members again will submit up to two images to be judged.

The points awarded by the judge for each image are summed up and the member with highest number of points, accumulated over the four rounds, will be the winner.

Colchester Photographic Society meets on Tuesdays, at 7.30pm at Christchurch, in Ireton Road, Colchester.

On March 10, print and digital photos will be analysed in a competition for members and on March 17 a talk will be given by member Colin Westgate on Iceland.
