DOZENS of fundraisers teed off in memory of a keen golfer.

Friends and family of Peter Brown, 72, took part in a tournament at Play Golf, in Colchester.

Mr Brown, from Colchester, died in hospital two weeks after a crash with a tractor in Ardleigh.

His family organised the golf day to pay tribute to him and to raise money for Essex Air Ambulance, which helped Mr Brown at the accident scene.

His son, Russell, 39, said: “Dad would have been really chuffed by the number of people who came out.

“There were 63 golfers. We have raised £1,000 and are still counting.”

Mr Brown was on his way to help a friend in his garden when the accident happened on January 6.

He was flown to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, with a bleed on the brain and was making progress, but suffered a heart attack two weeks later because of clots in his lungs. He died on January 29.

Mr Brown played at Play Golf, in Lexden, which plans to install a bench in his memory.

Sam Durrant won the competition, with Adrian Binns second and John Frost third.
