A PLAYGROUND is expected to re-open in time for Easter.
Work has begun on the Wheatfield Road play area in Stanway.
It was closed last summer following vandalism.
The main play area and the surrounding area became dangerous and Colchester Council closed it.
Playground manufacturer, Wicksteed Playgrounds, will start to install the new equipment from Monday.
New equipment includes a play unit including a slide, springers and a small roundabout.
It is expected to take two weeks to complete.
Annie Feltham, portfolio holder for community and lesiure services, said: “We know how much local children enjoy spending time at this playground.
“This mindless vandalism caused a lot of distress and inconvenience for local families.
“I want them to know we're committed to making sure the new equipment is installed and the playground reopened in time for the Easter holidays."
