TRAINS are on track to be cleaner, with more staff being hired.
Train operator Greater Anglia is hiring 56 cleaners, 40 of whom will board trains at strategic stops, including Colchester, at various times during the day and night to pick up rubbish.
Ten more staff will work on a temporary basis to de-ice train doors during cold mornings to prevent cancellations and will assist with general on train cleaning as the weather improves.
Trains between London Liverpool Street and Braintree, as well as other services, will also benefit from four additional temporary staff to assist in keeping trains clean and litter-free.
Greater Anglia’s customer service director, Andrew Goodrum, said: “Creating a clean, pleasant travelling environment is a key franchise commitment and this additional investment demonstrates our determination to make a real difference for our customers.
“Our new cleaners will provide an extra focus on trains, giving attention where required for improved passenger comfort.”
