A CAMPAIGNER has hit out at The Sun for its “arrogant” message to readers as it brought back Page 3.

The infamous images of topless women had not appeared on Page 3 for three days, which fuelled speculation the feature had been phased out.

The speculation appeared to be confirmed by a report in The Times, which has the same publisher as the tabloid, on Tuesday.

But in today's Sun, a brief message was attached to a topless picture of Nicole, 22, from Bournemouth.

It said: “Further to recent reports in all other media outlets, we would like to clarify that this is Page 3 and this is a picture of Nicole, 22, from Bournemouth.

“We would like to apologise on behalf of the print and broadcast journalists who have spent the last two days talking and writing about us.”

But Chantel Le Carpentier, president of the Essex Student Union - which has led a boycott of the newspaper - said the fight would go on.

She added: “We will get them in the end.

“I think what this has done is draw attention to the No More Page 3 campaign and given it some strong publicity.

“Everyone was talking about it and I think it has created a bigger pool of campaigners, so I think it has done more good than bad.”

Miss Le Carpentier added The Sun’s response, printed in yesterday’s paper, was “arrogant”.

Neither The Sun not The Daily Star are sold on campus since October 2013.

It is because some students consider topless pictures are sexist and encourage readers not to judge women on their bodies.
