TRAPPED in a minefield and fearing every step could be their last.

The hero paratroopers, featured in Kajaki: The True Story, launched a desperate rescue mission after a colleague stood on a mine during an Afghanistan campaign in 2006.

During the ill fated mission three soldiers lost limbs and Corporal Mark Wright, 27, was killed.

On Thursday, the real life survivors were among the audience for the film’s homecoming premiere at Colchester Odeon.

Among them, Sgt Stu Pearson, 39, who lost his left leg after stepping on a mine.

“We’ve pulled out of Afghanistan but, for me, the war goes on for the rest of my life," he said.

I met him alongside Scott Kyle, 31, the actor who plays him in Kajaki.

Scott added “There was a lot of pressure on our shoulders. I got to play toy soldiers on set but these guys went through this for real."
