A NEW £4.6 million primary school campus will be unveiled in Colchester next week.

The ribbon will be cut at the Abbey Field campus of St John’s Green Primary Shchool next Thursday.

The building, off Circular Road East, will accommodate up to 300 pupils and help meet demand for school places from the growing number of children growing up in Colchester, especially in the nearby Garrison redevelopment.

It will act as an annex to the original school and includes an assembly and ten classrooms, which will be used by pupils in reception and Years 1, 5 and 6.

Year 2, 3, and 4 pupils will get their education in the existing school, in St John’s Green.

The project, largely funded by a £3.9 million contribution from Taylor Wimpey, which is redeveloping much of Colchester’s former Garrison, will be unveiled by headteacher Simon Billings.

He will be joined by Ray Gooding, councillor responsible for education, plus representatives from contractors, project sponsors and managers.
