RESIDENTS will be able to get crime prevention advice straight to their phone as part of a new scheme.
Essex Community Messaging is set to launch today.
Everyone who registers for the service will be sent up-to-date crime prevention advice, notifications from officers and community safety issues in their specific areas.
Funded by Essex Police and Crime Commissioner as well as money seized through the Proceeds of Crime Act, the scheme also allows users can tailor their preferences to include issues such as rural crime of internet scams.
Nick Alston, Essex Police and Crime Commissioner, said: "Essex Community Messaging will get key crime and crime prevention information out to communities faster than ever before.”
He added: “We need to help communities join Essex Police in the fight against crime.
“Whether it’s through reporting suspicious behaviour or learning about simple measures to take to prevent crime, [the scheme] will provide a crucial new channel for keeping our communities safe. I urge everyone to register now for Essex Community Messaging.”
Chief Supt Luke Collison, who is leading the project, added: “I’m convinced that Essex Community Messaging will significantly enhance the quality of communication between Essex Police, key partners and the communities that we serve.”
