A WOMAN has created her own mini-triathlon to say thanks to medics who saved her dad’s life.

Kate Loader, 41, of Old School Lane, Elmstead, will be swimming 500m in Elmstead reservoir, biking five miles to Great Bentley and running six miles to Brightlingsea, on Sunday.

She will be joined by pal Steph Triscott, 38, a Braintree police officer who also lives in Elmstead.

Accountant Mrs Loader organised the fitness challenge to thank staff at Colchester General Hospital’s critical care unit, who treated her dad Peter Bowery.

Mr Bowery, 71, of Brightlingsea, suffered major organ failure after contracting pneumonia in 2012.

His wife and family were told to expect the worst, but after three weeks on the unit he made a full recovery.

Mrs Loader, a mum-oftwo, said: “We have been training, but it’s easier said than done. We will finish at Brightlingsea Model Boat Club because my mum and dad virtually run it.

“Mum will be doing teas and cakes for people who want to see us arrive.”

Mrs Loader previously raised about £650 for the hospital to buy an iPad and digital radios.
