First published in News

BUS services in Colchester are set for a change.

First Bus says the changes to six services will take effect from Sunday, August 31.

The changes will see:

• A full service of the 62 and 62A, with a bus every ten minutes, will be reinstated.

• An extra 65 service will run from Highwoods, arriving at Colchester North Station at 6.03am.

• The number 67’s 6.10am and 6.30am services between Mersea and Colchester General Hospital will run five minutes earlier, to arrive at Colchester North Station at 6.27am and 6.47am respectively to allow passengers to connect to the 6.35am and 6.55am trains to London.

The 6.30pm hospital to West Mersea service will run five minutes later, calling at North Station at 6.41pm, allowing passengers to connect from the 6.32am and 6.36am arriving trains from London Liverpool Street.

• The 75 and 75A services between Maldon and Essex University will now operate Boundary Road, instead of using the university ‘loop’.

OG, I absolutely agree with you. I was told that four of those old wrecks emit more particulate and nitrous oxide than the total if all modern cars in the town a day.

This is absolutely true. Other towns have told the bus companies to use cleaner, more modern buses or get fined. Every time that happens, the old wrecks get sent to Colchester, repainted (eventually) and let loose on the streets. One of the reasons access to the High Street is limited is to reduce pollution along the High St and Queen St, but ironically it is these knackered old buses which are a substantial part of the problem.
