A PAL of inspirational Tom Bowdidge is planning to cycle more than 600 miles.

The only catch? He’s not allowed to spend any money.

Matt Wills, who knew Tom at Colchester Royal Grammar School, will set off from London on Monday and hopes to arrive at Brandenburg Gate, in Berlin in four weeks time.

It means cycling about 30-miles a day.

Matt will be relying on acts of kindness, offers of free accommodation and pilfering past-its-best-before food from behind supermarkets.

The 18-year-old maths student, of Windmill Close, in Boxted, is embarking on the challenge with friend James Gregory, from Manchester.

He said: “It’s going to be tough, very tough.

“We really don’t want to let ourselves down.

The pair are hoping to raise £1,000 for the Tom Bowdidge Foundation.

Tom, of West Bergholt, died in October after fighting an aggressive stomach cancer.

Before he died, he had raised more than £100,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

So far they have raised more than £400.
