COLCHESTER dancers are set to rub shoulders with Disney’s colourful characters when they take part in the film company’s annual Euro parade.

Some 34 dancers from Stagecoach Colchester fought off competition from dance groups around the world to perform in the famous event, which takes place at Disneyland, in Paris, on Saturday.

The lucky group of boys and girls, aged between nine and 13-years-old, will lead out stars such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy to the sounds of Motown.

Caroline Maxwell, who runs the group, said: “They can’t wait to get out there and perform.

“We’ve been practicing so hard since April, but they all know the moves very well now.”

Their task is made all the more difficult because they have to dance while walking forward all at the same time.

In January, the group sent off an audition DVD to Disney bosses in a bid to be involved in the event.

Although some changes were suggested, the group were sent through to the next round, in March, and wowed the judges with their performances.

Amelia Smith, a Stagecoach Colchester student, added: “I’m so excited to go to Disneyland.

“I’ve never been before so I’m looking forward to meeting all the characters and go on the rides but most of all, I’m looking forward to performing in the pre-parade.

“It will be really nice to share the experience with all my Stagecoach friends too.”
