NOT many parents give their child the gift of life twice.

But Donna Annand, 43, from Highwoods, Colchester, is preparing to donate one of her kidneys to son Ryan, 23.

Ryan was born with only one quarter of a kidney.

After hearing their story, the colleagues at Asda decided to raise money for the Colchester Kidney Patients’ Association, which looked after Ryan.

They organised a 2,200-mile charity cycle on static bikes in the supermarket foyer, which kicked off yesterday to coincide with the Tour De France coming to Essex.

Staff, customers and other volunteers will take it in turns to do 15-minute shifts to cycle the equivalent of the famous tour – 2,200 miles – in the next week to raise the same amount in pounds.
