Colchester United reporter Jonathan Waldron picks his England team to face Uruguay

Essex County Standard: Raheem Sterling has the pace to unlock Uruguay Raheem Sterling has the pace to unlock Uruguay

COLCHESTER United reporter Jonathan Waldron picks his England team to face Uruguay in tonight's crunch match.

"Much of the talk leading up to England’s crunch clash with Uruguay has been dominated by Wayne Rooney and where he should play - if at all.

"The striker looked largely uncomfortable in a left-sided position in England’s defeat against Italy in their World Cup opener but still provided a precise cross for Daniel Sturridge’s well-taken equaliser.

"Roy Hodgson must decide whether to keep Rooney in the same position or move him into a more central role, switching Raheem Sterling to the left.

"Without doubt, Sterling’s pace is likely to worry a Uruguayan defence which looked porous in their defeat against Costa Rica.

Hodgson will want to pick a team to exploit their opponents’ weakness as much as possible. But I can’t see too many alterations to the starting line-up, given England’s largely pleasing display against Italy."

My team:

In goal: Joe Hart

Defenders: Glen Johnson, Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka (pictured with Roy Hodgson), Leighton Baines

Essex County Standard:

Midfielders: Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson (pictured), Danny Welbeck, Raheem Sterling

Essex County Standard:

Forwards: Wayne Rooney (pictured), Daniel Sturridge

Essex County Standard:

load of rubbish....should not publish crap like this before the match.
only won the world cup because it was in London at the height of the swinging 60's in England's heyday....how long has it been? 48 years!!!!!
we stand no more chance of winning, than becoming decent human beings.
we will never win the world cup again our hearts are in the wrong place, the ideal is all out of kilter.
no passion, no respect, no feelings,no skill, you got to have emotion in the words of ayrton senna.
we have none of the above, thats why we never get anything.
