From feast to famine: council now issues NO fines to motorists using Colchester's bus lanes

Essex County Standard: From feast to famine: council now issues NO fines to motorists using Colchester's bus lanes From feast to famine: council now issues NO fines to motorists using Colchester's bus lanes

Colchester’s new bus lane rules have not been issued a single ticket this year.

The bus lanes, introduced last October for motorists going up North Hill and turning from High Street into Queen Street, proved immediately controversial after fines of £1million were issued in less than three months.

After an online furore at the end of December 2013, Rodney Bass, transport boss at Essex County Council, waived the tickets and installed more signs in an amnesty which ended on Saturday, January 11.

However, a Freedom of Information request to Essex County Council by the Gazette has revealed no fines have been handed out since then.

Instead, warning letters have been issued to those caught.

See Thursday's Gazette for more.

so not only do they not collect a fine they pay and admin and postage cost for not collecting a fine? or rather we do.
yet another case of where process efficiency would reduce the number of cuts necesary.

So all the people who turn around on East Hill, sometimes almost hitting pedestrians in the process, don't need to bother? Except that, of course, that would be the point where the council decides to start fining again.

This bus lane is an unnecessary botched compromise which doesn't relieve congestion, but forces drivers into potentially dangerous manoeuvres. Better to scrap it now than create further confusion.

I always wonder when i see your posts, i dream of gone with the wind or love story, then when i start reading them its more like ena sharples in curlers or the thought of a night out with hilda ogden.
of course people have to u turn at vaf or castle road that's obvious. What i dont get is issuing out warnings to the ones that dont care, i wondered why i saw a load of them driving through there the other night and they were not taxi's.
Its because its voting time on the horizon and Rodder's wants the blue bloods back in again next year with the Cameroon's.
You dont get cautions on speed cameras do you or not paying your council tax.

On more than one occasion I have seen people go through the lights by the war memorial and turn Right into Queen Street. This is totally illegal and dangerous as the people from East Hill who are using the Crossing have a Green Light in their favour. A 4x4 turned right in front of the bus I was on the other day , the vehicle was driven by a woman with children in the back of it. It is about time Police sat in Cowdray Crescent and watched the antics of some of these people and nicked them for dangerous driving.

It is about time that Colchester Council and Essex Police had a purge on these cab drivers all of them.
Racing about the borough trying to get to the next fare, using the town like a smokey and the bandit cannonball run.
They tail gate all and sundry and the abuse from some of them.
And by the way all the taxis in the borough should be the same model and color pick F*****G metallic burgundy for example. Gold Colchester Crests on them. Quite simple you don't conform you don't get a licence
This includes the rank cabs and the other ones that operate out of radio shacks HQ's.
We need uniformity that way anyone running a rebel job its easier to pick them up.
As for the bus lane fine crap, they have no worries they are exempt so what are they doing in shot?
We need to get rid of the cowboys?
