NEW evidence has been brought forward in the Jim Attfield murder investigation.

Essex Police say the force received a number of calls after last night's Crimewatch programme showed a reconstruction of his attack.

This morning, a force spokeswoman said at least one call has provided "new evidence for the investigation".

Enquiries are still continuing and it is not known what the new evidence is.

The reconstruction traced Mr Attfield's last known movements on the day before he was found fatally injured, near to Lower Castle Park, in Colchester, on May 29.

It also showed CCTV images of him going into the Post Office, in North Hill and taking out £350 in cash.

He also went to a newsagent and a ten pin bowling alley, before entering the River Lodge, in Middleborough.

The movements of Mr Attfield, 33, are not known after he left the pub, at about 10pm.

The BBC reconstruction showed the father-of-five being attacked from behind while sitting on a bench and being threatened with a knife.

He was found by a cyclist on a path near to the lake, at Lower Castle Park at about 5.45am.

He died despite paramedics' attempts to save him.

Anyone with information on Mr Attfield's death should contact Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
