Before I saw the previous quote, I was going to say, that making Colchester have more residents, the better.

It will give a greater diversity to the current resident numbers, allow more people to think that opening a shop might be a good idea.

And rather than homogenised national chains, I think more local boutiques would be better.

Making Colchester more of the 'Market Town' it was and should only ever have been.

Forget trying to compete with Chelmsford and Ipswich, give North Essex/South Suffolk more reason to come to Colchester not less.

Still I live in hope but with 99% of councillors lobotomised prior to taking up their position we have little chance!!!

At least they can all say they followed the party line and pick up their OBE on the way out!! And with the high street still car friendly they can get to their free parking at the back of the town hall. And so can their children on a Saturday night!!

oh bugger starting to rant now..... :)
monies would be better spent on redeveloping the teflons at rowan house. that way developers might plans passed through without all the hassle. made me laugh years ago. i got building regs on an extension in an old Victorian house with some grant work on it. the twit came round to sign it off and pulled it up on three things one of them was a bit of pointing 1 inch thick by 6 inches long roughly about the six of his pen*s. the chap spent more time eyeing my wife up than getting on with the job, with that 50p smile and tweed jacket. i told him to f off* he said you would never sell the house because it would flag up on a council search. i said not for cash buyers it wont. guess what i got a cash buyer, so it was two winstons to his 6 inch pe*nis, i mean piece of pointing. this is why nothing gets done in this town, because they expect you to suck up to them and grease them a little. jumbo and this development wont see the light of day, well not unless you have stash of brown envelopes."

Developer reveals how Colchester Odeon redevelopment will "rejuvenate" Crouch Street

THE man behind plans to rejuvenate Colchester’s old Odeon cinema has insisted his is the only viable scheme.

Ross Carroll, of developer Amdev 101, last week applied for planning permission to convert the building into three shops and seven apartments.

Although the former cinema would be partly demolished, the Thirties Art Deco facade, which dominates Crouch Street, would be preserved. If the go-ahead is given, work could start as soon as this autumn.

Mr Carroll is also working on a second phase to the £14million project – building a four-storey block of 36 apartments on land behind the cinema.
