A baby and a man were taken to hospital after a crash on the A12 which caused seven miles of tailbacks.

The accident on the southbound carriageway at Eight Ash Green, at 5pm yesterday, involved a lorry, a car and five other vehicles.

Queues stretched back as far as the Ardleigh Crown interchange after two lanes of the road were blocked.

The two patients were taken to Colchester General Hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries, an ambulance service spokesman said.
