Friends want answers after student's sudden death

First published in News

Friends of a popular student are searching for answers after he was found dead just hours after running from a hospital.

Paulo Junior, 34, who was studying for a PhD at the University of Essex, was taken to Broomfield Hospital on Thursday morning after being spotted in distress at Stansted Airport.

But the Brazilian national, whose full name is Paulo Henrique Dias Junior, ran away from hospital staff after arriving, and was later discovered in the grounds of a house less than a mile away.

Friends are mystified by the unusual behaviour of the student, who arrived at the university’s Colchester campus in January and had been due to stay for the rest of the year.

PhD student Tara Van Ho, who worked in an office opposite Paulo, said: “He was a very friendly person who was always smiling.

“He was excited to be in Colchester and integrated really well into our group and this is so shocking for all of us."

Presumably he was under the care of NEPFT In Chelmsford? The Quality Care Commission are already investigating this bunch for various issues in Clacton:
Yes we want action and we want answers so if you are listening Mr Paverly, you don't have to worry about VAF/First site any-more get on and deal with this.
I am sure the people you oversee will have all the excuses under the sun.
Did someone, somewhere F****D up badly here?
The Catholic community at Essex University and in the parish are on it like a rash.
I smell a riot if answers are not forthcoming
My take on it, he was sectioned under R136 they stuffed him with the wrong medication including Diazepam?
The rest is an unfortunate history.
Top PHD Student in Sciences, ends up like this there are a lot of questions and a lot of answers needed.
1. Cause of death 2. Extenuating circumstances and conditions.

Friend,
I am an old friend of Paulo, we spent our teen ages living in the same neighbourhood and studying in the same school. I know his family. No one here would like to see his death to become an opportunity for speculation. I beg you: If you have some important information, go to the consulate, talk to authorities, show your face and do it to people how could help. But if you don't, leave us alone. Do not poison the hearts of people who loved him. At this very moment, some os his relatives are alredy asking: "Why this guy wrote such a thing?". They are already experiencing to much pain, be merciful and please don't let it get worse.

You have used a internet translation device and you do not know what you are talking about, cutting and pasting the above comment and electronically re translating it back to your language will leave you confused. You sound confused. There is a lot of people here quite alarmed and we want to know what happened, so I suggest you just be a little quiet and reserved and let us do the asking of questions and talking for you. You do not understand.

No, I'm suggesting that relevant information must be delivered to the authorities. My friend is gone and you start speaking about how alarmed you are... you sound confused. Charges against somebody on the internet don't solve anything. In the other way, creates panic and hurt those involved.

jsimoes, we talked to the newspaper because we wanted to share happy stories about Paulo. Ultimately, this is what they chose to focus on, which is fine with us (with the hope they also at some point share the tribute story they said they were writing). This interview was given (as were others) after consultation with his friends here because we do not think this is an open-and-shut case as the police and the media here have treated it. As his father's comment indicates, there are a lot of questions and we cannot get anyone to give us his answers. We have been told the police will want to speak to us eventually, but they haven't yet. The consulate cannot provide us with any information. And we are here. Since we are here we can only imagine how frustrating it must be for his family in Brazil. We think it is our duty to ensure Paulo's family gets the answers he need, and only through publicly pushing for this can we do that.

Same opinion of Paulo's father wrote above, why do authorities not use the hospital cams to validate info about Paulo Jr situation in time of hospital admission? I met Paulo Jr before he left to UK and he had a lot of future plans and he was excited for this international PhD experience. I studied with him during all Graduation degree and he has not any mental disease as first official reports of his death said. However, the authorities need to conclude and close all details. We are in Brazil totally devastated about it. Now, I keep on my mind all more than 13 years of friendship, trips, parties and many hours talking about our lives. This is a last pic I took with him in december '13. https://fbcdn-sphoto
