TWO friends hope to impress judges at the Chelsea Flower Show with a modern Ying and Yang-themed design.

Pearl Sandys, 69, and Pat Baynton, 55, will be attending the show on Wednesday on behalf of Tiptree and District Flower Club.

Their design is built around a metal frame, and shows two half moons in the Ying and Yang style.

It was picked in the “sculpture in the garden” section of the show.

Ms Sandys, from Peldon, said: “It is lovely to be there and to be involved. You meet lots of like-minded people and see how they interpreted the idea. It’s interesting.

“We hope to get some results, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed. The competition is fierce.”

They will arrive at the venue on Wednesday afternoon and work through the night to get their display ready for Thursday.

It will be on show until the end of Saturday.

The pair had a practice run, but decided their design was too “fussy”, so they have changed it.

Ms Sandys said: “We’re trying to keep it simple. It is quite a lot of work, but it is exciting.

“Everyone at the club has been supportive and willing to help.”

The friends were part of a team from the Tiptree club that attended the show five years ago.
