MORE than 4,000 people have visited Colchester Castle since it re-opened on the May Bank Holiday weekend.
The newly refurbished castle has proven an instant hit with visitors.
In the ten days following the re-opening, on May 2, more than 4,000 visitors went through the doors compared to 1,700 in the same period in 2012.
Bill Seaman, Colchester and Ipswich Museums Manager put the increase down to a “mix of fascinating history and modern technology for all ages”.
He added: “Over the coming months we have a packed schools programme with visits booked in almost every day, and those taking our museum passes is rising too, so it is going to be a really busy summer for everyone.”
The castle closed in March 2013 in order to under go a £4.2million redevelopment.
