Fresh details revealed of where residents will have to pay to park in Colchester

Essex County Standard: Fresh details revealed of where residents will have to pay to park in Colchester Fresh details revealed of where residents will have to pay to park in Colchester

RESIDENTS will have to pay to park in parts of Colchester for the first time under final plans published today.

Colchester Council has outlined the areas where residents parking permits will be introduced across the borough, from September.

Christ Church will see the biggest change to current arrangements.

There will be no significant change to parking arrangements in:

• Enid Way, Golden Dawn, Hugh Dickinson Road, Prior Way and Rose Crescent
• Catchpool Road, Jarmin Road and Colne Bank Avenue
• Castle Road and Roman Road
• Sussex Road, New Kiln Road, Endsleigh Court, The Chantry and Lockhart Avenue
• Oaks Drive

Changes will be made in Wellesley Road, where parking bays will be for permit holders only, between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Parking for drivers with school permits will be allowed in some bays between 8.30am and 9.30am and between 2.30pm and 4pm.

Martin Hunt, borough councillor responsible for street services, launched a consultation on the proposals in January to gauge public opinion.

He said: "We received many comments during the consultation and these have shaped the proposals that will be implemented.

“It is clear that there are strong views on where and when permit parking should be provided.

“In many areas people made it clear they wanted no change and I have, as promised, responded to this.”

He added: “The changes planned for each of the 13 zones still aim to better enable residents living in permit areas, and their visitors, to park.

“Considering each zone in turn, they also reflect the views of other uses found in some residential areas, including schools and businesses.”

I would not be so opposed to resident parking if they didn't have to pay so much for it.
Fortunately at the moment it doesn't affect me, but I have made a conscious decision not to shop in town unless it is absolutely necessary because of parking charges and a stupid one way system at the end of the High Street..
Likewise I avoids all but essential travel; anywhere near the North Station /ASDA roundabouts.

I am sorry to say the Gazette report is completely wrong. There is no change whatsoever to the current restrictions in Jarmin Road and Catchpool Road. No changes were even proposed to other streets in the area. Over about 80 per cent of Colchester there will be no change at all including Lexden, most of Christ Church and Mile End and Castle. The full list of original proposals and how they have been changed as a result of the consultation can be found on Colchester Council's website.

16p a day for the first car. 20p for the second. That's not exactly expensive when you consider the admin costs.

Thank you Mr Hunt kindly for your reassurance.
Could I add this was not as reported by the gazette some weeks if one read between the lines.
Also the rumours in Christchurch by some residents also advocated and propagated our fears.
I take your response remark as an affirmation and therefore I am content that my remark is NOT the case.
As a fellow Lib Dem party member I am assured of your integrity and professionalism:

It would seem that your'e still reeling from the striping kit the newtown scratcher did for you, maybe the job was not good enough.
If you are going to cut and paste previous posts please show a little dignity.
1. My voting slips have gone off, by post.
2. In the Euro Poll I voted Lib Dem.
3. In the local council elections I voted UKIP. (As a protest).
4. In your case I will be voting for the Newtown Scratcher, if you carry on with your silly posts.
