The Queen will be visiting Felsted School and Chelmsford next month.

On May 6, Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Felsted School which is celebrating its 450th year and Chelmsford Cathedral as the diocese marks its 100th year.

Following the announcement, Braintree Facebook users suggested the Queen should also pay a visit to John Ray Infant School pupils after their building burnt down late August last year.

A spokesman for the Queen said: “Her visits are planned a very long time in advance - about four to six months and we don’t add engagements at a week’s notice.

“I understand why it’s important for the community and I’m very sorry, but these things are arranged in a lot of detail.

“The Queen gets invited to attend lots of different events.

“People can write in and make a request for a visit through the Lord Lieutenant’s office in each county.”
