THE jury in the trial of a teenager accused of killing Clacton student Jay Whiston have been sent out to consider their verdicts.
The jury of seven men and five women were sent out at 10.49am this morning following a 13-week trial.
Teenager Edward Redman denies murdering 17-year-old Jay at a party in Colchester nearly two years ago.
He died after he was stabbed in the heart when a row started over a bottle of whiskey.
Redman has not given evidence in his trial, but told police Jay’s death was nothing to do with him.
His father, Gary Redman, brother, John, and former girlfriend, Shannon Fenlon, also decided not to go into the witness box and give evidence.
They deny conspiring to pervert the course of justice in connection with the alleged murder.
Jay received a fatal stab wound to his heart after trouble flared at the party on Saturday, September 8, 2012.
More than 40 prosecution witnesses have been called during the trial, many of them teenagers who were at the party.
Judge Charles Gratwicke finished his summing up of the evidence this morning.
