THE detective leading the Jim Attfield murder investigation says someone is protecting the killer.

Jim, 33, was found near Colchester’s Lower Castle Park on Saturday morning with 102 stab wounds.

Gazette:

Det Chief Insp Simon Werrett, the officer in charge of the murder probe, has revealed Jim, of East Bay, Colchester, might have defended himself.

He said the killer, or killers, would have been covered in blood and could have suffered injuries.

Mr Werrett said: “Someone out there knows who is responsible.

“Someone has come home with potential injuries and blood all over their clothing.”

Mr Werrett yesterday revealed more weapons have been discovered close to where Jim’s body was found.

A 38-year-old man from Colchester was arrested on suspicion of offences connected with the investigation in Cowdray Avenue on Wednesday.
