Panto camel to tackle Parkrun record

CAMEL calamity will be coming to Colchester’s Castle Park tomorrow when a world record attempt is made to complete a 5km run in a pantomime outfit.

Lorraine Collins and Rob Sanders who regularly attend the weekly Parkrun there have decided to swap their usual running kit for the more theatrical attire.

The duo’s Guinness World Record attempt will be to run the fastest time in two-man panto outfit, over 5km.

The challenge will also mark the first birthday of Parkrun in Colchester.

It is a free, weekly timed 5km run for people of all standards and ages and takes place every Saturday at 9am in Castle Park.

Lorraine, 42, of Great Tey, said: “We need to run 5km in under 30 minutes which is quite tricky in a sweltering costume up and down Castle Park’s infamous hills, but we are convinced we can do it.”

The pair ran in the costume for fun at Christmas and managed to complete the course in 31 minutes. It was this that inspired them to try and set the world record.

Lorraine and Rob, 36, of Earls Colne, have put together a “Camel Crew” support team comprising of friends who will pace them, film and time them.

They have hired a professional witness and all evidence will be submitted to Guinness after the attempt before they can be officially declared record holders.

Parkrun is managed by a core team of volunteers, led by event director John Wheatley.
