A LIFESAVING Essex charity is celebrating after being given a tax break in the Budget.

Chancellor George Osborne announced yesterday air ambulances will no longer pay VAT on fuel.

The team at the Essex Air Ambulance, based in Earls Colne, were delighted with the news.

It will save the charity an estimated £5,500 each year - the cost of two life-saving missions.

Say It As It Is OK? says...

Cut the defence and in particularTrident and nuclear submarine budgets and give the money to Air Ambulances which should not, in all honesty, have to rely on charitable donations.

From those figures they only spend £110,000 on fuel a year....and only perform 20 life saving missions

Doesn't seem right to me

Anyway, sod 'just' the air ambulance. You need to worry about the ambulance service as a whole. Your better off having a life threatening incident where the air ambulance is called rather than wait for a land ambulance that never comes as they are all queued up at Colchester General waiting to off load patients!

Take away the publicly funded police helicopter and give it to the air ambulance . Then get the police to raise charity money for theirs and see what difference it makes. Love to see the coppers fundraising for their joy rides
