A MEDICAL practice has raised cash for Help for Heroes in memory of a young soldier.
Staff and patients at Creffield Medical Centre have donated £1,000 to Chavasse VC House, the Help for Heroes run Recovery Centre mat Colchester Garrison from money raised as part of their annual flu day last winter.
The surgery, which is based at the former Garrison riding school arena on Cavalry Road, vaccinated 1,900 eligible people during the event.
Doctors and nurses also took the opportunity to check for irregular heart rates which is important in the prevention of strokes.
The medical centre staff and its patient participation group chose to donate the money to Help for Heroes and particularly the recovery centre on Berechurch Road, in memory of Ben St Joseph.
Ben, who was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps, died on the Scottish mountain Ben Nevis in January 2013.
