A woman has died after being hit by a train at Witham railway station.
Essex police were contacted by the ambulance service shortly before 3pm today following reports of a death.
A police spokesman said: "Officers arrived and found the body of a woman."
There is no more information available about her at this time.
Rail users faced delays all afternoon with lines between Liverpool Street and Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich were affected.
National Rail issued the following statement: "A person had been hit by a train at Witham which had blocked all lines, all lines are now open.
"Trains between London Liverpool Street and Marks Tey may still be delayed by up 45 minutes while the service returns to normal.
"These delays will continue until approximately 5.30pm.
"Please note, that journeys between London Liverpool Street and Colchester / Clacton-on-Sea / Walton-on-the-Naze / Stowmarket may also be affected by planned engineering work."
