A WOMAN has been left shocked and angry after her Colchester home was burgled.

A handbag, three mobile phones and cash were taken during the break in at a house in Alanbrooke Road this morning (Saturday).

The handbag and a purse were recovered a few meters away.

The offenders entered the house through an unlocked door at the back of the house.

Investigating Officer, Dc Peter Gartland, said: "We believe this burglar was on foot and so would have been spotted walking or running along either Rowhedge Road or Fingringhoe Road.

“We believe this may have been between 6-8am so those people out walking their dog, out for a jog, those driving to work or those returning home from a night shift are all potential witnesses.

“If they saw a man looking suspicious or out of place in this area, then we need to hear from them.

"The female owner is shocked that she has fallen foul of a burglar and now understands why we urge people to lock their doors.

“She is also angry that someone has taken advantage of this lapse in concentration and invaded her family home.”

A forensic examination of the house has been carried out and officers have made house-to-house enquiries.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
